Body Worn Camera Program

Winchester’s Sheriff’s Office Schedule Public Information Open House on Body-Worn Cameras

WINCHESTER –   The Body Worn Camera Program is currently in the procurement phase.  We will keep you updated as the process continues.

In November, City Council provided consent to City staff to accept a grant from the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) to implement a local body-worn camera program.  The Winchester Sheriff’s Office, Winchester Police Department and Frederick County Sheriff’s Office were partners in the grant application process. As part of the funding requirement, all three law enforcement agencies must develop and implement body-worn camera policies, which must be approved by the BJA. The policy provides instructions on when and how officers/deputies are to use the cameras, as well as guidelines for management, storage and release of data.
